When Should You Apply to WITS for 2024-2025?

On March 1, 2023, the University of the Witwatersrand will open its application for 2024 admission. As a result, applicants are encouraged to apply after March 1. This application deadline applies to all undergraduate and postgraduate applicants interested in admission in 2024-2025.

 

2024 Wits Application Deadline for all Available Programmes

The following are the official closing dates for WITS University:

  • 30 June 2023 – Faculty of Health Sciences (all programmes); Bachelor of Architecture; Bachelor of Audiology, Bachelor of Speech-Language Pathology; BA Film and TV
  • 30 September 2023 – All other University programmes
  • 30 September 2023– Residence applications

Is WITS accepting late applications for 2024-2025?

Late applications are only accepted if there are still seats available in some of the courses. The late application deadline is usually announced after the first application window has officially closed. This blog will notify its readers as soon as the Late Admission opening date for 2024 is announced and published. When the date is announced, we urge you to log into the application portal as soon as possible to apply for the available courses before the university closes it again.

How Much to Pay for the Application Fee

An applicant who wishes to apply for admission to WITS University must pay a non-refundable fee of R100 (South African citizens) AND R700 (International Applicants) before the official closing date for 2024.

How to Pay:

An application can choose any of the following mediums to effect payments

  • Standard Bank, Account name: Wits University – Application Fees. Current Account Number: 200 346 385, Branch code: Braamfontein 004 805. CI Number 074A. (International payment swift code: SBZAZAJJ). As a reference, use your person/student number.
  • Pay by cash or credit card at the Wits Fees Office, Ground Floor, Solomon Mahlangu House), Braamfontein Campus East, Jorissen Street, Braamfontein, Johannesburg, South Africa. Use your person/student number as the reference.
  • EFT – Use your Person/Student number as the reference.

Step 1: Login information

  • To apply online, go to www.wits.ac.za/applications/

Step 2: Choose Your Desired Courses

  • Chooses your Programmes (Maximum of 3 programmes)
  • If you apply for two programmes within one Faculty, you are advised to apply for one programme in a less restricted faculty (e.g. Humanities, Commerce or Science).
  • Try to keep your options open, especially when applying for programmes in Faculties such as Health Sciences or Engineering.
  • Do not enter the duration of the programme. You are applying to go into 1st year of study.

Step 3: Pay the Non-Refundable Registration Fee

  • non-refundable application fee of R100 for South African citizens, and R700 for foreign citizens, is required.

Step 4: Upload your supporting documents

  • Gather your documents or upload further/ outstanding documents. These Documents must be in the format required by the university

Step 5: Submit your Application

  • You will receive an email from the University acknowledging receipt of your application.
  • The acknowledgement letter will contain a person number (which will become your student number), and a reference person for you to contact for any queries you may have.
  • All records of correspondence from the University will be available on the student self-service portal https://self-service.wits.ac.za

Step 6: Track your Application

  • Check the status of your application and to-do items on the student self-service portal regularly.
  • Keep your contact details up-to-date on self-service.

Step 7: Accept the offer

  • Current Matriculants may be made a provisional offer (depending on self-reported Grade 11 results). Please note that certain programmes have additional selection criteria (interview/audition/NBT). Refer to the Provisional Acceptance Guide.
  • Firm offers can only be confirmed after receiving final matric results.
  • Applicants who receive a firm offer will be required to go to www.wits.ac.za/regsitration/ for registration details.
  • Each choice of degree is treated as a separate application. The order of choice makes no difference.
  • Communication offering a firm place and information about registration and orientation programme will reflect on the self-service portal, and registration and orientation details will be available on the Wits website.
  • Places are limited, therefore you may only accept one offer. You are required to respond to the offer within a few days of your offer letter/sms to secure your place.

Supporting Documents to be Uploaded:

These  Documents must be Uploaded together with any additional documents during the online application

  • Current Matriculants: Upload your final Grade 11 results (no hardcopy required).
  • Already Matriculated: Upload certified copies of all your matric certificates/foreign school leaving certificates.
  • Other Tertiary Institutions: Upload a certified copy of official academic records for ALL tertiary registrations, inclusive of a statement/certificate of good conduct, stamped by the institution’s registrar. (Note that interim, self-service generated results will be considered for initial assessment purposes for GEMP applicants ONLY).
