The University of the Free State Management invites applications for admission to the 2025–2026 academic year. Eligible applicants are encouraged to submit their applications online or download the form through the designated portal. Please note that the application window is time-bound, and a second window will not be offered after the official deadline.
The University of Free State (UFS) applications for 2025-2026 are open
Applications for undergraduate programs at the University of the Free State (UFS) are officially open for the 2025–2026 academic year. Whether you’re aiming for a degree on the bustling Bloemfontein and Qwaqwa campuses or seeking entry through an Access Programme on the South Campus or sub-regions, the time to start the journey is now.
Applications are open as follows:
- April 1, 2024: For all undergraduate programs offered on the Bloemfontein and Qwaqwa campuses.
- July 1, 2024: For all Access Programmes offered on the South Campus and sub-regions.

University of the Free State (UFS) Application Fee 2025:
No application fee is payable by any applicants.
UFS Admissions 2025: Choose Your Path, Online or Manual
For 2025, UFS welcomes new students through two application options: online and manual. Both methods are equally accepted, so pick your preferred route!
Online Application:

How to Apply UFS Online For 2025
Follow the steps below to apply to the University of Free State (UFS) online for the 2025-2026 academic year:
STEP 1: Login Details
- Go to https://apply.ufs.ac.za/ to access the UFS Online Portal.
- Click the “Apply” tab in the top menu of the page.
- The online application form is now available.
STEP 2: Fill out Your Application And Upload the Required Documents
- Fill up the blanks with the correct information.
- Fill out the online application form with the required information. The REQUIRED/COMPULSORY Field is marked with an asterisk (*). If you forfeit any of these, your application will be nullified.
STEP 3: Submit Your Completed Application Form
- Send your application in.
- Your application has been received. You will be assigned a student number and your application will be acknowledged. If you have not yet submitted the needed papers, you will be asked to do so before your application can be processed.
- The university will assess your application. You will be given a conditional offer to study if your evaluation is positive. SUBJECT TO SPACE AVAILABILITY.

Documents Required for UFS Online Application 2025-2026
Prospective applicants should submit these documents as soon as possible before the application deadlines.
- Your ID if you are a South African citizen
- Your passport if you are an international student
- Your parent’s ID or passport if you are younger than 18
- Your final Grade 11 results with the school’s stamp
- Grade 12 June results with the school’s stamp as soon as it becomes available.
- National Senior Certificate (NSC) if you have already matriculated
- Your academic record, only if you are/were a student at another institution of higher
learning - USAF accreditation from the examination board for South African universities. Apply to mb.usaf.ac.za for conditional exemption, foreign conditional exemption, or mature age conditional exemption.
When to receive Feedback on the Application
You will receive notification from the university about the status of your application within 30 days of submitting it, depending on the supplied results that have been examined.
The University of the Free State Admission Requirements
- An applicant will be CONDITIONALLY ADMITTED based on your Grade 11 or equivalent results, subject to you meeting all the minimum requirements for the intended programme of study. Please note that conditional admission is not applicable to all the selected programmes in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
- An applicant’s FINAL ADMISSION to the programme of your choice will depend on your final Grade 12 results. You will be notified of the university’s admission decision immediately after your final Grade 12 results have been released by the Department of Education.
