Interested students can apply online for admission to Rhodes University for the 2026 academic year, which begins April 1, 2025, via the university portal. Prospective undergraduate students at Rhodes University may apply to up to three programs on the same application form. Making three (3) choices increases your chances of admission to Rhodes University. These alternatives may be drawn from the same or different faculties.

Rhodes University Application Process

To apply online to Rhodes University, you’ll need an internet-enabled device, email address, and contact number. Applications will be accepted from April 1 to September 30, 2025. Ensure all required fields are completed before submitting the application. Additional information may be required after the initial submission.

Please keep in mind that because Rhodes University accepts both online and paper applications, applicants can obtain a paper copy of the application form and complete it with a pen. Rhodes University Online Application Requirements 

There is a need to attach the following documents to the fully completed application form before the deadline for submission for the 2026 academic year. You are reminded not to leave any documents out while uploading them online.

Applicants seeking Undergraduate ( CERTIFICATE, DIPLOMA & BACHELOR) qualification

  • Certified copy of your ID/passport document (compulsory).
  • Certified Grade 11 end-of-year examination results (for those currently in grade 12) or your National Senior/Matric/IEB Certificate (if you have already completed Grade 12).
  • Certified copies of your degree certificate(s) and academic record (if you attended or are currently a student at UP or another university).
  • Certified copy of your marriage certificate (if applicable).
  • Proof of payment of the compulsory and non-refundable application fee

Applicants seeking Postgraduate (MASTERS & DOCTORATE) qualifications

  • Certified copies of the following documents:
  • Matric exemption certificate (including subject marks)
  • ID document / Passport / Work permit / Study permit
  • Diploma/Degree certificate/s
  • Comprehensive academic record (indicating marks obtained for subjects)
  • Certificate of registration with the relevant professions council (if applicable)
  • Letter of appointment as a registrar with a date of assumption of duty: applicants for M Med and M Dent students NB: letter from the employer, e.g. Hospital HR.
  • Motivational letter and CV (Public Health applicants only)
  • Medical aid (Non-South Africans)
  • Students with non-South African qualifications must attach a SAQA evaluation certificate with their previous degrees obtained

How to Apply to Rhodes University for the 2026 academic year

To apply online to Rhodes University for the 2026 academic year between April 1 and September 30, please follow the guidelines below.

  • Go to https://www.ru.ac.za/.
  • Place the cursor on the Studying tab and select an option called ONLINE APPLICATION
  • You will be taken to the application gateway.
  • Select the ROSS link.
  • You will be directed to a page where you must log in as Admission (not yet enrolled at Rhodes)
  • To access ROSS, you must first register as an online user and/or receive login information from Rhodes University.
  • Use your student number and password to log in if you have already been assigned one.
  • If you have not yet registered for online applications and wish to apply to Rhodes, please click the link and follow the instructions.
  • Sign up for a New Undergraduate Admission, Honours, Masters, or PhD program.
  • After selecting your qualification, complete the form.
  • An email will be sent to the address you specified.
  • You must activate your account by clicking the link in the email message.
  • You can now access the application portal by entering your USERNAME and PASSWORD.
  • Complete the application form by populating the required fields
  • Once you have completed your application, tick the button accepting the terms and conditions and submit.
  • When you submit, you must pay the R100 application fee. Various options are provided by the system.
  • If you pay your application fee to the bank, use your application number as the reference and email the deposit slip to us.
  • Once you have completed the process above, Rhodes will process the application, and you will be provided with a student number and login.
  • You can check the status of your application with the assigned or allocated student number after a few weeks of submission.
