North-West University (NWU) has officially confirmed that the application window for the 2026 academic year will open on April 1, 2025, at midnight. Prospective students who wish to enroll at NWU can submit their applications online through the official website, www.nwu.ac.za. It’s important to apply early, as certain programs have early deadlines. Be sure to check specific program requirements and submit all necessary documents before the application deadline to ensure your place at NWU for the 2026 academic year
NWU 2026 Application Open Day
All students who meet the requirements can apply to study at North-West University for the 2026 academic year. Applications open on April 1, 2025. The official application form will be available starting that day
NWU 2026 Application Deadline
Students must be aware of both the opening date and the application deadline for the upcoming academic year. For the 2026 academic year, North-West University (NWU) will officially close applications for all undergraduate courses on July 31, 2025. This means that the latest date to submit your application and all required materials is July 31, 2025. Who Qualifies to Apply to NWU
All prospective students, domestic or foreign, who seek to advance their undergraduate or graduate degrees are welcome to apply to North-West University (NWU) for the academic year 2026. Only those who fulfil the entrance and faculty requirements of their degrees will be eligible for the final selection to North-West University.
NWU Application Fee For 2026
South African citizens are exempt from paying an application fee when applying to North-West University for the 2026 academic year. However, international applicants are required to pay an application fee of R600. This fee must be paid before the closing date, and proof of payment must be submitted to NWU by that deadline.
Minimum Requirements
To study a higher certificate, diploma, or bachelor degree at North-West University, you need to meet the minimum requirements below:
Higher Certificate: The minimum admission requirement is a National Senior Certificate with a minimum of 30% in the language of learning and teaching of the higher education institution as certified by Umalusi, the Quality Assurance Council. Institutional and programme needs may require additional combinations or recognised NSC subjects and levels of achievement.
Diploma: The minimum admission requirement is a National Senior Certificate with a minimum of 30% in the language of learning and teaching of the higher education institution as certified by Umalusi, the Quality Assurance Council, coupled with an achievement rating of 3 (Moderate Achievement, 40% – 49%) or better in four (4) recognised 20-credit subjects. Institutional and programme needs may require additional combinations of recognised NSC subjects and levels of achievement.
Bachelor’s Degree: The minimum admission requirement is a National Senior Certificate with a minimum of 30% in the language of learning and teaching of the higher education institution as certified by Umalusi, the Quality Assurance Council, coupled with an achievement rating of 4 (Adequate Achievement, 50%–59%) or better in four (4) recognised 20-credit subjects. Institutional and programme needs may require additional combinations of recognised NSC subjects and levels of achievement.

Application Materials Required For 2026
Prospective applicants wishing to study at North-West University must possess the following documents:
- A mobile phone and an active email address are required
- Grade 12 results; grade 11 results (final results only) or a copy of your matriculation certificate, if you have already passed matriculation.
- Applicants who are currently upgrading their grade 12 results will only be considered after the improved results are presented to the NWU.
- Applicants who follow the Cambridge, GED, or any other non-NSC curriculum or who may qualify for exemption based on advanced age or post-school qualifications must provide an exemption certificate as issued by the USAF.
- A copy of your ID
- Copy of your academic record (if applicable).
- A copy of your passport if you are a citizen of South Africa
Required Documents for Postgraduate Candidates
- A certified copy of your SA ID document (or your passport if you are an international student).
- Certified copies of academic transcripts of all qualifications obtained from other tertiary education institutions.
- Certified copies of all certificates, diplomas, and degrees from other tertiary institutions.

- Click on the NWU Application Login 2026
- Create a new student number.
- If you already have a university number, enter it into the portal.
- When you receive a student number, log in with it and the PIN you created. Keep your student ID and PIN secure. You’ll require it in the future.
- Fill out all of the fields.
- Upload any supporting documentation. The university may reject an application if it is incomplete.
