Undergraduate and graduate students can formally apply for courses at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) for the 2026 academic year beginning Tuesday, April 1, 2025. Begin your academic career at one of South Africa’s leading universities by completing the free online application.

UWC Application Closing Dates For 2026

Attention prospective University of the Western Cape students! Here’s a quick rundown of application deadlines for the 2026 academic year:

  • General Application Deadline: September 30, 2025 (Submit all documents by this date!)
  • Dentistry & Oral Health/School of Government: August 31, 2025 (Apply early for these competitive programs!)
  • BA Honours Sports/Biokinetics and BSc Honours Biokinetics: July 31, 2025 (Don’t delay if these fields interest you!)

Application Fee Requirements

Registration Fees waived for 2026 applicants at the University of the Western Cape. The University of the Western Cape is excited to announce that there will be no registration or application fee for incoming students in 2026

Two Ways to Apply to UWC

The University of the Western Cape offers two convenient ways to apply for the 2026 academic year: online and in person. Both methods are valid, but we highly recommend the fast and efficient online application.

  • Apply directly through the university’s admission portal (steps outlined below).
  • This is the quickest way to get your application in front of the admissions team.
  • You’ll receive a confirmation email with further instructions within 24-48 hours.

Do you prefer paper-based applications? Manual Application

  • Download the application form, fill it out with ink, and submit it via email or hand delivery to the admissions office.
  • Please note that this method may take longer for your application to reach the review stage.

How to Apply Online to the University of the Western Cape (UWC) 

During the University of the Western Cape’s 2026 academic year application period, apply using the guidelines below.

STEP 1: LOGIN DETAILS

  • Check the entry Requirements

STEP 3: FILL OUT YOUR APPLICATION

  • Fill in the information required.
  • indicate the year of application
  • select your qualification

STEP 4: UPLOAD THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

  • Gather your documents or upload further or outstanding documents. These documents must be in the format required by the university.
    • Supporting documents are:
      • A certified copy of your ID document (for South African nationals, an ID document is required; your application will not be processed unless you provide a certified copy of your ID and your passport number for international applicants).
      • Your grade 12 final results, if available, or, if you are in grade 12, your grade 11 results
      • When applying online or by mail, you’ll need a unique email address

STEP 5: SUBMIT YOUR COMPLETED APPLICATION

  • Submit your completed online application form and documents.
  • Click on “submit” to submit your application for review by UWC.

How to UPLOAD Required Documents

  • Log in with your application number to upload important application materials.
  • You must log in using your student number if you are a current student and need to upload a copy of your ID document.

University of the Western Cape (UWC) Supporting Materials Required

All applicants must submit the following documents as part of the 2026 academic year application procedure.

  • Certified copy of your NSC Certificate or Senior Certificate
  • A certified copy of your Identification document
  • Certified Certificate of good conduct from your current or previous institution
  • Certified Official Academic Transcript
  • Module content / Yearbook descriptor from your institution for all modules completed
  • Certified Degree certificate (if applicable)

UWC Acceptance Requirement 

Minimum Requirements

  • A National Senior Certificate (NSC) Bachelors pass—an achievement rating of 4 (sufficient success 50–59 percent) or better in four courses chosen from the recognized 20 credit NSC subjects (known as the specified subject list)—is the minimum entry requirement.

System of UWC Points

  • UWC uses a weighted approach to calculate points for admission to degree and diploma programs. A minimal number of points must be obtained in order for a candidate to be admitted to degree programs.
