If you are considering furthering your studies at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), the application form for the 2026 academic intake will soon be open online. Please take note that the online application process for undergraduate and graduate programs will begin on April 1, 2025. You can find all of the information you need to complete the UJ application form in this article
Key Document Format Required
Prospective applicants should be very careful with the documents they upload or submit to the admission office. There are prescribed formats for all the documents. Most applicants are rejected because they ignore those formats. Applicants must have them scanned and saved separately. These documents must be in tiff, pdf, jpg, or gif format with a maximum size of 5 MB.
Key Dates:
- Application Opening Date: 1st April 2025
- Application Closing Date: 31st October 2025
Note: UJ does not accept late applications. Be sure to submit your application before the deadline.
Application Fee: There is no application fee for online applications. For paper-based applications, a non-refundable fee of R200 applies.
Getting Started with Your UJ Online Application:
- Visit the University of Johannesburg website: www.uj.ac.za
- Click on the “Apply Now” button.
- Select the type of study you are applying for (e.g., undergraduate, postgraduate, or online studies).
- Make sure you meet the eligibility requirements for the programme you want to apply for.
- Create an account or log in to your existing account.
- Complete the online application form.
- Upload your required documents.
- Pay the application fee (if applicable).
- Submit your application.
- Check your application status online.
Paper-based Application For 2026:
All manual applications have an R200 fee. The money is not refundable to any applicants whose admissions applications were rejected.
Applicants must download the application form on the official website here, complete it in ink, and submit it to the postal address. The proof of application fee payment must be included in the following documents when submitting:

- Hand deliveries: Submit your application to any of UJ’s four campuses.
Application Required Documents
Local applications must come with the following documents:
- Certified copy of your Grade 11 (if you’re in Grade 12 right now)
- Copies of your identification documents that have been certified (ID)
- A certified copy of your Grade 12 examination results
Foreign Applicants (Outside South Africa)
- A certified copy of your native country’s ID
- The first page of your passport with the name, expiry and other information visible
- Study Visa in South Africa
- A certified medical report, not more than 3 months
- English Proficiency For undergraduate programs, proof of IELTS with an overall score of 6 and TOEFL with an average score of 80–104 is required. You can take the English Language Programme Test at the University of Johannesburg (UJELP).

Admission requirements: It is recommended that applicants download the University of Johannesburg’s undergraduate and graduate prospectus and examine the minimum and faculty requirements. However, fulfilling the condition does not ensure that you will be admitted.
