The University of Free State Management is accepting applications for admission to the 2026 academic year. Applicants who meet the prerequisites may download the form or apply online using the authorized portal. Applications for undergraduate programs at the University of the Free State (UFS) are officially open for the 2026 academic year. Whether you’re aiming for a degree on the bustling Bloemfontein and Qwaqwa campuses or seeking entry through an Access Programme on the South Campus or sub-regions, the time to start the journey is now.

Applications are open as follows:

April 1, 2025: For all undergraduate programs offered on the Bloemfontein and Qwaqwa campuses.
July 1, 2025: For all Access Programmes offered on the South Campus and sub-regions.

How to Apply UFS Online For 2026

Follow the steps below to apply to the University of Free State (UFS) online for the 2026 academic year:

Go to apply.ufs.ac.za to begin your online application.
Fill out all fields marked with an asterisk (*) on the form
Upload all required documents (see below).
Once completed, submit your application.
You will receive a student number via email.
Upload any missing documents before the deadline.

Documents Required for UFS Online Application 2026

Prospective applicants should submit these documents as soon as possible before the application deadlines.

Your ID if you are a South African citizen
Your passport if you are an international student
Your parent’s ID or passport if you are younger than 18
Your final Grade 11 results with the school’s stamp
Grade 12 June results with the school’s stamp as soon as it becomes available.
National Senior Certificate (NSC) if you have already matriculated
Your academic record, only if you are/were a student at another institution of higher
learning
USAF accreditation from the examination board for South African universities. Apply to mb.usaf.ac.za for conditional exemption, foreign conditional exemption, or mature age conditional exemption.

When to receive Feedback on the Application

You will receive notification from the university about the status of your application within 30 days of submitting it, depending on the supplied results that have been examined.

The University of the Free State Admission Requirements

An applicant will be CONDITIONALLY ADMITTED based on your Grade 11 or equivalent results, subject to you meeting all the minimum requirements for the intended programme of study. Please note that conditional admission is not applicable to all the selected programmes in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
An applicant’s FINAL ADMISSION to the programme of your choice will depend on your final Grade 12 results. You will be notified of the university’s admission decision immediately after your final Grade 12 results have been released by the Department of Education.
