The University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) Management would like to notify all interested and eligible candidates that they may submit an application for admission to the university for the academic year 2026 as the official application window is now open online. This application window has a time limit for the 2026 academic calendar. To avoid disappointment, applicants are asked to apply as soon as possible.
This post includes details on all application steps, when to submit needed documents (application opening and closing dates), and other admission-related issues for the academic year 2026.
WITS University Online Application Dates for 2026 Intake:
The University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) online application portal is now open for the 2026 academic year. On March 1, 2025, the application process officially began, and students were able to apply for admission. Thus, depending on the program you’re enrolling in, the University of the Witwatersrand’s 2026 application window is open from March 1 to September 30, 2025. Although the Wits admissions process may be challenging, if you start early and meet the requirements, your chances of getting into the course of your choosing will be increased.
WITS University Application Deadline for all Courses For 2026
Aspiring students at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in Johannesburg, South Africa, are you excited to be a part of the lively academic community there? Perhaps you’re wondering if the online application portal for the academic year 2026 is open yet. WITS University is open for 2026 applications, and the closing dates are as follows:
- 30 June 2025: Faculty of Health Sciences (all programmes); Bachelor of Architecture; Bachelor of Audiology, Bachelor of Speech-Language Pathology; BA Film and TV
- 30 September 2025: All other University programmes
- 30 September 2025: Residence applications
Late Applications at WITS University
It is advised that applicants submit their applications as early in the process as feasible. The extension of the application deadline is based upon the availability of seats in the available courses for 2026.

Follow these steps to apply at WITS University for the 2026 academic year. WITS Online Application Form 2026
Step 1: Login information
- To apply online, go to www.wits.ac.za/applications/
Step 2: Choose Your Desired Courses
- Choose your Programmes (Maximum of 3 programmes)

If you apply for two programmes within one Faculty, you are advised to apply for one programme in a less restricted faculty (e.g. humanities, commerce, or Science).

Try to keep your options open, especially when applying for programmes in Faculties such as Health Sciences or Engineering.
- Do not enter the duration of the programme. You are applying to go into 1st year of study.
Step 3: Pay the Non-Refundable Registration Fee

A non-refundable application fee of R100 for South African citizens and R700 for foreign citizens is required.
Step 4: Upload your supporting documents
- Gather your documents or upload further or outstanding documents. These Documents must be in the format required by the university

Current Matriculants: Upload your final Grade 11 results (no hardcopy required).

Already Matriculated: Upload certified copies of all your matric certificates/foreign school leaving certificates.

Other Tertiary Institutions: Upload a certified copy of official academic records for ALL tertiary registrations, inclusive of a statement/certificate of good conduct, stamped by the institution’s registrar. (Note that interim, self-service generated results will be considered for initial assessment purposes for GEMP applicants ONLY).

Step 5: Submit your Application
- You will receive an email from the University acknowledging receipt of your application.
- The acknowledgement letter will contain a person number (which will become your student number), and a reference person for you to contact for any queries you may have.
- All records of correspondence from the University will be available on the student self-service portal https://self-service.wits.ac.za
Step 6: Track your Application
- Check the status of your application and to-do items on the student self-service portal regularly.
- Keep your contact details up-to-date on self-service.
Step 7: Accept the offer
- Current Matriculants may be made a provisional offer (depending on self-reported Grade 11 results). Please note that certain programmes have additional selection criteria (interview/audition/NBT). Refer to the Provisional Acceptance Guide.
- Firm offers can only be confirmed after receiving final matric results.
- Applicants who receive a firm offer will be required to go to www.wits.ac.za/regsitration for registration details.
- Each choice of degree is treated as a separate application. The order of choice makes no difference.
- Communication offering a firm place and information about registration and orientation programme will reflect on the self-service portal, and registration and orientation details will be available on the Wits website.
- Places are limited, therefore, you may only accept one offer. You are required to respond to the offer within a few days of your offer letter/sms to secure your place.
