The University of Johannesburg begins accepting new applications for all programs in April of the year, before the program’s start date. This suggests that if you want to start in 2025, you should apply in April 2024.

Applications for the University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) 2025–2026 academic year are now open online, starting April 1, 2024. Prospective undergraduate students can apply to up to two programs, from any faculty to boost their chances of admission.

Starting April 1st, 2024, you can apply online to the University of Johannesburg (UJ) using a mobile device or any internet-connected computer. You’ll need an email address and phone number to apply.

Submitting an online application requires filling out all the necessary fields. However, most applicants will need to send additional information to UJ’s admissions office later.

Alternatively, you can grab a paper application form, fill it out by hand, and attach all required documents. These manual applications will go through a separate review process for admission in 2025.

Why you must study at UJ in 2025

As a UJ undergraduate or postgraduate student, you will be part of a community of committed, smart, and influential people who are pushing the boundaries of knowledge, and contributing to the betterment of society. Your qualification experience will provide you with the opportunity to build global networks.

The university has a strong track record of obtaining international funding.

Unfortunately, you will be unable to apply to UJ while still in Grade 11 and without internet access. Applications can only be submitted the year before you plan to enrol, and only online.

If there is space in the Faculty you want to change to and you meet the admission requirements, you can change your course.

University of Johannesburg UJ Online Application Form and Fees for 2025

The University of Johannesburg UJ accepts online and manual applications and the 2024-2025 intake is no exception. Applicants applying for undergraduate qualification are however advised to apply online.

Applications for admission to undergraduate studies at UJ in 2024 open on 01 April 2023 and close on 31 October 2023. Please make every effort to submit your application as soon as possible. We do not accept late applications.

Each application must be accompanied by an R200 application fee. Unless applying online, all manual applicants must attach proof of payment of the non-refundable fee to the application form before submitting it to any of the four UJ campuses.

Documents Needed and Required to Apply to UJ

Applicants to UJ’s undergraduate programs must submit the following documents.

South African Applicants

  • Copies of your identification documents that have been certified (ID)
  • A certified copy of your Grade 12 examination results if you have completed
  • Certified copy of your Grade 11 (if you’re in Grade 12 right now)
  • A working email address is required

International Applicants

  • A certified copy of your native country’s identification document
  •  A certified copy of your passport number from your home country
  • Study Visa in South Africa
  • Medical Report
  • English Proficiency For Undergraduate programs, proof of IELTS with an overall score of 6 and TOEFL with an average score of 80–104 is required. For those whose high school courses were taught in a language other than English, this is applicable.

Required Documents for Postgraduate Candidates

  • A certified copy of your SA ID document (or your passport if you are an international student).
  • Certified copies of academic transcripts of all qualifications obtained from other tertiary education institutions.
  • Certified copies of all certificates/diplomas/degrees from other tertiary institutions.

What are the UJ application fees?

The online application to the University of Johannesburg is free, but those who wish to submit a paper-based application must pay R200 non-refundable for the 2024 academic intake.

How to Apply to UJ for 2025

If you are looking for an undergraduate degree, you can apply online. To apply online, you must have a valid email address as well as your South African identity number or if you are an international applicant, your passport number. All University of Johannesburg UJ postgraduate applicants must apply online rather than on paper.

You can also print and fill out the application form, which can be found on the application forms page, before submitting it in person or by mail. We know for certain that the University of Johannesburg UJ does not accept application forms for their courses after the deadline. As a result, it is critical to apply before the 2024-2025 application deadlines.
