What you need to know

You need to download the prospectus for the 2026 academic year based on your qualifications. This could be done with the help of a smart device. You need this to see if you meet the admission requirement of the course you intend to apply to.

These prospectuses contain all the admission requirements for all the faculties. The application processes are also given in these documents.

When they accept new applications:

The University of Johannesburg welcomes new applications for all programs beginning in April of the year preceding the anticipated academic year. Thus, the 2026 application window will open on April 1, 2025.

The university closes applications between June and October every year. Applications close on October 31st of the same year.
Late applications are not accepted.

Mode of Application of the University:

There are two ways to apply to the university. The applicant must decide between these two submission options: a manual application or an online application.

Application fee payable for 2026:

The online form is free. However, manual applications are R200.00 more expensive. Both South African and non-South African applicants must comply with this. Before the deadline, the proof of payment must be either mailed to the institution or posted through the portal. Click here to see the banking details

Supporting Documents:

Without these documents, the application will not be processed for consideration for the 2026 academic year. Remember to scan them if applying online.

Copies of your identification documents that have been certified (ID)
A certified copy of your Grade 12 examination results
Certified copy of your Grade 11 (if you’re in Grade 12 right now)
An email address is required.

Foreign Applicants (Outside South Africa)

A certified copy of your native country’s identification document
A certified copy of your passport number from your home country
Study Visa in South Africa
Medical Report
English Proficiency For undergraduate programs, proof of IELTS with an overall score of 6 and TOEFL with an average score of 80–104 is required.
You can take the English Language Programme Test at the University of Johannesburg (UJELP).
