NSFAS Application Period for 2026

The NSFAS online application portal for the 2026 academic year will be open from September 1, 2025, to January 31, 2026. Applicants should ensure they have all required documentation and complete their online application accurately before submitting it, as late applications will not be accepted after the closing date.

Coverage for NSFAS Bursary

Qualified applicants are eligible for the following benefits and allowances for 2026, which apply to both university and Tvet College students.

University Students

• Accommodation: As per the actual costs charged by the university (costs for private accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence)
• Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7 500  per annum
• Living allowance of R15,000  per year
• Book allowances of R5200 annually
• Incidental/personal care allowance of R2900 per annum for students in catered residences

Tvet College Applicants

• Accommodation in an urban area is R24,000 per annum
• Accommodation in a peri-urban area is R18,900 on an annual basis
• Accommodation in a rural area is R15,750 per annum
• Transport (up to 40 km from the institution): R7,350  every year
• Transport R7000 per annum
• Incidental/personal care allowance: R2900 yearly
