Beginning September 1, 2025, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) will accept manual applications for the 2026 admissions season. NSFAS encourages South African undergraduate students seeking financial support to continue their studies at TVET colleges or universities to download and complete the form manually. Before submitting the hard copy of the application, make sure to include any supporting documents.

When can I apply?

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme application form for the 2026 academic year will be available online from September 1, 2025. All applications have until January 31, 2026, to submit a fully completed application form together with all supporting materials for the 2026 academic intake, so it’s recommended to apply early.

NSFAS Funding Coverage and Allowances for 2026

NSFAS is a scholarship provided to deserving South African students to cover higher education-related expenses.

Approved applicants for NSFAS 2026 funding will have their Registration and Tuition fees covered.

Upon approval and confirmation of the 2026 NSFAS application, students may receive additional allowances for:

Attach the following documents to your fully completed NSFAS application form for 2026

A copy of student ID / Birth certificate
A Copy of the parent’s or guardian’s ID
A two-sided Smart card
Proof of income (where applicable)
Disability Annexure A form
completed Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker
An applicant who has indicated that s/he has no family member details and/or abridged birth certificate must complete the Declaration: Non-SASSA
