All local and international applicants who wish to study at North-West University for 2026 can now apply! The official application page and form are open to everyone, regardless of background. However, due to the university’s reputation in the education business and the competitive nature of all courses offered, ensure that you meet the academic and non-academic prerequisites for the program you have chosen before beginning.

Indeed! North-West University (NWU) began accepting online admission applications for 2026 on April 1, 2025. Remember, however, that closing dates vary according to the program you choose.

Non-selection Courses: August 31, 2025
Music: August 31, 2024 (don’t forget to apply for an audition too!)
Graphic Design: August 31, 2025
Engineering: August 31, 2025
Occupational Hygiene: August 31, 2025
Urban and Regional Planning: August 31, 2025
All other selection courses: June 30, 2025

Application Materials Required

Here’s a comprehensive list of the documents you’ll need as an international and local applicant for the 2026 intake when applying online:

Undergraduate Applicants

Results from grades 12 and 11 (final results only) Alternatively, if you have previously passed matric, a copy of your matric certificate.
A photocopy of your ID
A copy of your transcripts (if applicable).
Applicants who are currently enhancing their grade 12 results will be evaluated only after the NWU receives the improved results.
Applicants who pursue the Cambridge, GED, or any other non-NSC curriculum, or who may be eligible for an exemption due to older age or post-school qualifications, must present a USAF exemption certificate.
Completed undertaking
Additional documents for international prospective students:
- A copy of relevant results

Postgraduate Applicants

Copy of your academic record (if applicable).

Application Requirements

Good news for South African students! Applying to North-West University in 2025 is entirely free. However, international applicants will need to pay an application fee of R550.

Visit the 2026 NWU Application Portal.
Create a new student ID number.
In the gateway, enter your current student number. (Previous applicants
Log in with your student number and the created PIN as soon as you have it. Keep your PIN and student ID safely stored for future use. (New Applicant)
Complete the application form by filling out all required fields.
Include any supporting paperwork that is requested. The institution reserves the right to reject incomplete applications.
Submit your application once you have collected all of the essential documents and information.
