All diploma, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate programs applications for the 2024-2025 academic year open on 3 April 2023, and all undergraduate programs close on Friday, 28 July 2023. Postgraduate applications, on the other hand, will close on Friday, September 29, 2024.

Sefako Makgatho University Online application fee for 2024-2025
The handling or application fee for online applications is R200 for South Africans and R200 for international applicants, respectively. Proof of payment must be attached to the application form and submitted as soon as possible before the application deadline for the 2024 intake. Applicants should be aware that failure to pay the application fee for 2024 will result in their application being rejected.
Paying the application fee does not guarantee admission, and your money will not be refunded if you are not accepted for the 2024/2025 academic year. If you are rejected for 2024, you must complete a new application form and pay a new application fee.
Prospective applicants must apply for up to two programs from any faculty of their choice, assuming they meet the entry requirements for each. You may apply for two different study options. If you want to apply for both undergraduate and postgraduate programs, you must do so separately and provide the necessary documentation for each. However, there is only one application fee for both.

Applicants seeking Undergraduate ( CERTIFICATE, DIPLOMA & BACHELOR) qualification
- Certified copy of your ID/passport document (compulsory).
- Certified Grade 11 end-of-year examination results (for those currently in grade 12) or your National Senior/Matric/IEB Certificate (if you have already completed Grade 12).
- Certified copies of your degree certificate(s) and academic record (if you attended or are currently a student at SMU or another university).
- Certified copy of your marriage certificate (if applicable).
- Proof of payment of the compulsory and non-refundable application fee
Applicants seeking Postgraduate (MASTERS & DOCTORATE) qualifications
- Certified copies of the following documents:
- Matric exemption certificate (including subject marks)
- ID document / Passport / Work permit / Study permit
- Diploma/Degree certificate/s
- Comprehensive academic record (indicating marks obtained for subjects)

How to Apply for Sefako Makgatho University 2024-2025
To apply online, follow the steps below:
- An application form obtainable from home affairs,
- A valid passport (for a year or more),
- Admission letter from the University,
- A letter from the institution in support of your study visa (International office),
- Bank statement – Copy of passport or I.D of parent or guardian responsible for the financial support and a supporting letter,
- A study visa fee of R425-00,
- Proof of medical aid cover confirming that you will be covered while in SA. Medical reports (including Radiology & Pathology).
