Who Qualifies to Be an Undergraduate Student at the University of Johannesburg
To qualify as an undergraduate student at UJ, you generally need to meet the following criteria:

Completion of Secondary Education:

A National Senior Certificate (NSC) or equivalent high school qualification.

For international students, an equivalent recognized school-leaving certificate.

Typically, students must have completed secondary schooling and be ready to start tertiary education (usually around 17–18 years or older).

The University of Johannesburg 2027 undergraduate application window ends on 31 October at 12h00, with no extensions granted for late applicants.

Application Materials Required
To complete your application successfully, please ensure you have the following documents ready:
South African Applicants

Certified copy of your South African ID

Certified copy of your Grade 12 results (if you have completed Grade 12)

Certified copy of your Grade 11 final results (if you are currently in Grade 12)

International Applicants

Application Fee for 2027 Admissions
The manual (hard copy) application requires a non-refundable fee of R200. This fee applies to both South African and international applicants

If you are submitting a manual application, attach the original proof of payment (deposit receipt) to your completed application form.

Apply using the online forms for 2027
These are simplified methods of applying using the online application portal
- Get access to the internet and use the Mozilla firefox browser for your own good
- Enter www.uj.ac.za/Apply to commence
- Click on the new application option
- If you don’t have your student number, fill in the required spaces to generate your student number
- Log in with your student number that was sent to your email
- Choose your courses (first and second choice)
- Upload the required documents as listed above in their right format (tiff, pdf, jpg, and gif.)
- Submit the application after reviewing it for accuracy.
