The University of Cape Town (UCT) undergraduate and postgraduate application window for the 2026 academic year will officially commence in April 2025. Whoever (International and South African students) want to start or continue their studies at UCT can apply for the 2026 academic year.

Application Fees at UCT

UCT charges an application fee depending on your region:

  • SADC (Southern African Development Community): R100
  • Non-SADC (International): R300
  • For the Graduate School of Business (GSB):
  • South African & African Applicants: R1,940
  • Non-African Applicants: USD 300

How to Pay the UCT Application Fee

  • Cash payment at the Cashiers office of the university;

Who Qualifies for Admission for 2026?

The requirements for admission vary based on what you wish to study. The following are the requirements for certificate courses, diplomas, and degrees:

Undergraduate Diploma Study Requirement: The minimum requirement for admission to undergraduate diploma study is a National Senior Certificate (NSC) as certified by Umalusi with an achievement rating of 3 (Moderate Achievement, 40-49%) or better in 4 recognised NSC 20-credit subjects.

Undergraduate Certificate Study: To confirm eligibility for admission to undergraduate certificate study, applicants must consult the Admissions Office or the faculty concerned.

Bachelor’s Degree Study Criteria: To be eligible for admission to degree study, applicants need to meet the minimum requirements for eligibility:

  • Applicants with a South African National Senior Certificate (NSC) must complete a minimum of four 20-credit NSC topics with a grade of 4 (Adequate Achievement, 50-59 percent) or better.
  • Applicants holding a South African Senior Certificate need matriculation endorsement.
  • Applicants holding non-South African school-leaving certificates must qualify for a matriculation exemption certificate. For more information, please visit the website of the Matriculation Board.
