The University of Cape Town Application Requirements

Before you can gain admission to the University of Cape Town, you must first satisfy certain academic and non-academic requirements.

Non-Academic Requirements

Documents: You will be required to upload certain documents to validate your application form when completing the online application to the university. These are referred to as supporting documents. These documents must be converted into pdf files before they can be uploaded online. Check out the list below.

Current learners at school must make sure that all examination results from Grade 11 until September of grade 12 are submitted.
Transferring students should submit all transcripts and academic records.

Application Fees:

Academic Requirements

Undergraduate Certificate Study: Applicants should check with the Admissions Office or the relevant faculty to ensure their eligibility for undergraduate certificate study.

Undergraduate Diploma Study: The minimum requirement for admission to undergraduate diploma study is a National Senior Certificate (NSC) as certified by Umalusi with an achievement rating of 3 (Moderate Achievement, 40-49%) or better in 4 recognised NSC 20-credit subjects.

Bachelor’s Degree Study

To be eligible for admission to degree study, applicants need to meet the minimum requirements for eligibility:
Applicants holding a South African National Senior Certificate (NSC) need to pass a minimum of 4 subjects at a rating of 4 (Adequate Achievement, 50-59%) or better in any four 20-credit NSC subjects.
Applicants holding a South African Senior Certificate need matriculation endorsement.
Applicants holding non-South African school-leaving certificates must qualify for a matriculation exemption certificate. For more information, please visit the website of the Matriculation Board.

Follow these steps to complete your application for the 2026 academic year:

Click on the Apply online to UCT Button to commence your online application

STEP 2: Choose your Course or Program

Select a qualification and any additional criteria.
Choose your course after examining the specific course requirements. This stage is very key to gaining admission into this University

STEP 3: Complete Online Application Forms

Gather your paperwork or upload any missing or incomplete documents.
Download an application form (manual applications only)
Fill out your application completely (manual and online)
The application cost must be paid (where applicable).

Step 4: Submit the Completed Application Form

Submit your completed form as well as any supporting papers (manual and Online Applications). Review to ensure the right thing is done before clicking on the Button or sending the hardcopy either by mail or hand delivery
