NSFAS TVET Semester 2 Funding Application 2026

TVET College students can apply for financial aid from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) starting in 2026. NSFAS offers loans and bursaries to help cover expenses such as tuition, registration, housing, transportation, and textbooks. Due to varying academic calendars, NSFAS has specific application deadlines for each trimester and semester. The deadline for walk-in applications for the second semester is approaching soon.

Who Qualifies for NSFAS?

To qualify for an NSFAS bursary, you must be a South African citizen meeting one of the following criteria:

SASSA recipient: Automatic financial eligibility.
Household income: Less than R350 000 per year.
Person with a disability: Household income less than R600 000 per year.

How to Apply for NSFAS

Applying for NSFAS is a straightforward process. Follow these steps:

Visit www.nsfas.org.za and click on the myNSFAS button.
Click on the application page to begin.
Log onto www.nsfas.org.za and click on the myNSFAS tab.
Click on register and tick on the acceptance option.
Enter your ID number, name, surname, email address, and cellphone number.
Create and confirm a password.
Upload a copy of your ID.
Click on register.
Receive a one-time PIN (OTP) and submit.
Complete the sections on the screen.
Upload the required supporting documents and click ‘Submit’.

How Much Is NSFAS Money For 2026

NSFAS Bursary Application Now Open for Eligible South African Students

If you are a South African citizen with a total household annual income of R350,000 or less and wish to study at a public university or TVET institution in South Africa, you may be eligible for financial aid through the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS). The NSFAS application portal is currently open and will close on January 31, 2025.

Will 2026 NSFAS money be increased?

The NSFAS budget has been gradually increasing to support more eligible students and address rising education costs. With the government prioritizing higher education and accessible education for all, NSFAS funding is expected to continue growing.

NSFAS Eligibility Criteria

Transportation allowances (up to 40 km from the institution) of R7 500 per year
Living allowance of R15, 000 per year
Learning Materials allowances of R5200 per year
Incidental/personal care allowance of R2900 per year for students in catered residences

Allowances for Accommodation in a peri-urban area amounting to R18,900 per annum
Allowances for Accommodation in a rural area amounting to R15,750 per annum

Allowances for Transport amounting to R7000 per annum
Allowances for Incidental/personal care amounting to R2900 per annum
