How To Apply For 2026 NSFAS – www.nsfas.org.za login

Applying for NSFAS in 2026 is easy. Check your eligibility, register on the NSFAS portal, and complete your online application at www.nsfas.org.za. After submitting, track your application status and submit any necessary documents. NSFAS 2026 funding is open to all eligible students enrolled or about to enroll in TVET colleges or universities in South Africa. Read this article for more information.

When To Apply For 2026 NSFAS In South Africa

Students should apply for NSFAS funding for the 2026 academic year in South Africa between September 1, 2025, and January 31, 2026. NSFAS will review all applications submitted before the deadline and select those that meet the criteria. Late applications will not be considered.

Assess your eligibility for the NSFAS bursary.

You will only be eligible for the NSFAS 2026 bursary if you:

  • Are a South African Citizen
  • Have a Combined gross household income not exceeding R350 000 per annum
  • Have a solid academic record
  • Are a Person living with a disability with a Combined gross household income not exceeding R600 000 per annum
  • A SASSA recipient
  • Have an email and cell phone number

How to Register for the 2026 NSFAS Account

If you qualify for NSFAS funding in 2026, you need to create and register an NSFAS account on the website using a smart device (phone with a registered and valid SIM) and your personal information. Register your account now!!!

  • Log onto www.nsfas.org.za and click on the myNSFAS tab.
  • Click on register. Tick on the acceptance option to allow NSFAS to verify and validate the information you provided.
  • Type in your ID number as it appears on your ID document.
  • Type in your name and surname as they appear on your ID Document.
  • Type in your email address and cellphone number. Your username will be your email address.
  • Create a password and confirm your password.
  • Upload a copy of your ID.
  • Click on register.
  • After clicking register, a One Time Pin (OTP) will be sent to the email address and cellphone number you provided.
  • Check your cell phone and email for the OTP.
  • Type in the OTP in the tab provided and click submit.
  • You will then receive another SMS and email confirming that your myNSFAS account has been created. You may now continue with your application.

How to complete the NSFAS online application form

You can now apply for NSFAS 2026 by following the steps outlined below:

  • Log into the set-up NSFAS account with a password and username
  • Click on the ‘APPLY’ tab and complete the sections on the screen
  • Upload required supporting documents where applicable
  • Click on ‘Submit’

Application Required Documents For NSFAS Funding

The documents required will vary depending on the individual’s specific situation. Generally, NSFAS will require applicants to submit the following documents:

  • A copy of student ID / Birth certificate
  • A Copy of the parent/s or guardian/spouse’s ID
  • A two-sided Smart card
  • Proof of income (where applicable)
  • Disability Annexure A form
  • completed Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker
  • An applicant who has indicated that s/he has no family member details and/or abridged birth certificate must complete the Declaration: Non-SASSA

Check NSFAS application status

  • NSFAS has a Student Portal available at www.mynsfas.org.za.
  • Log in using your MyNSFAS username and password to access the portal.
  • View the status of your application on the homepage.
  • Check your application details, financial aid information, and messages.
  • Receive notifications about outstanding documents and upcoming deadlines.
