NSFAS TVET Semester 2 Funding Application 2026

TVET College students can apply for financial aid from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) starting in 2026. NSFAS offers loans and bursaries to help cover expenses such as tuition, registration, housing, transportation, and textbooks. Due to varying academic calendars, NSFAS has specific application deadlines for each trimester and semester. The deadline for walk-in applications for the second semester is approaching soon.

Who Qualifies for NSFAS?

To qualify for an NSFAS bursary, you must be a South African citizen meeting one of the following criteria:

  • SASSA recipient: Automatic financial eligibility.
  • Household income: Less than R350 000 per year.
  • Person with a disability: Household income less than R600 000 per year.

Key Dates for NSFAS TVET Walk-In Applications

Ensure your applications are submitted within the following timelines:

  • Semester 2 Applications: Open from 9th July 2025 to 26th July 2025
  • Trimester 3 Applications: Open from 2nd September 2025 to 20th September 2025

How to Apply for NSFAS

Applying for NSFAS is a straightforward process. Follow these steps:

  • Visit www.nsfas.org.za and click on the myNSFAS button.
  • Click on the application page to begin.
  • Log onto www.nsfas.org.za and click on the myNSFAS tab.
  • Click on register and tick on the acceptance option.
  • Enter your ID number, name, surname, email address, and cellphone number.
  • Create and confirm a password.
  • Upload a copy of your ID.
  • Click on register.
  • Receive a one-time PIN (OTP) and submit.
  • Complete the sections on the screen.
  • Upload the required supporting documents and click ‘Submit’.

Kindly submit the following documents together with a fully completed online application form

  • Copy of your ID or birth certificate
  • ID copies of parents, guardian, or spouse (if applicable)
  • Proof of income or 1 year’s IRP5 (if applicable)

  • Disability Annexure A Form (if applicable)
  • Vulnerable Child Declaration and Consent Form (if applicable)
  • NSFAS 2024 Consent form

The South African government supports these students through the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS). This initiative aims to help undergraduate applicants cover their tertiary education costs and achieve their academic goals, ensuring that financial limitations do not hinder their educational opportunities.

In this article, we will discuss what a student stands to gain once approved by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS)

NSFAS Application Period for 2026 Academic Year

The NSFAS online application portal will be open from September 1, 2025, to January 27, 2026. Applicants must submit all required documents by this deadline to be considered for financial support for the 2026 academic year. Late applications submitted after this date may not be eligible for funding.

Accommodation As per the actual costs charged by the university (costs for private accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence),

Living allowance R15, 000  per annum

Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum for students in catered residences

TVETs COLLEGES

Accommodation in an urban area R24,000 per annum
Accommodation in a peri-urban area R18,900 per annum
Accommodation in a rural area R15,750 per annum
Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350  per annum
Transport R7000 per annum
