When does the DUT 2026 application period open?

Interested candidates can begin submitting online applications to Durban University of Technology (DUT) starting Tuesday, April 1, 2025, for admission to the 2026 academic year. Due to high demand and limited spaces available, applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible, as only a small number of students will be accepted into the various courses.

What dates do DUT applications close in 2025?

Eligibility Criteria for Admission at DUT University

  • A candidate must meet the university’s minimum standards to be considered for admission to DUTS University.
  • In order to be accepted, applicants must also meet the university’s faculty-specific entrance standards.
  • All supporting documentation must be uploaded for a successful application.
  • An applicant must submit a fully completed online application form before or on the deadline or closing date.
  • Applicants who have paid the application fee in full online.

DUT Application Fee for the 2026 application season:

The following non-refundable application fee must be paid by the applicant:

    • R250 for citizens of South Africa
    • International applicants will be charged R300.

How to Pay 

  • Direct Deposit: Pay your fees at any Standard Bank branch, Account 050505416; use your student number as a reference
  • EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer): Transfer funds directly from your account to DUT. Use your student number as a reference. Remember to allow two days for the payment to reflect.
  • Online: Visit www.dut.ac.za to pay your fees by credit card.

How to Apply online through CAO

To successfully apply to your chosen Durban University of Technology (DUT), follow the steps given below.

  • A prospective student interested in studying at DUT should apply through the CAO, which can be found at www.cao.ac.za.
  • Please complete the CAO application form online and attach or upload certified copies of your identity document as well as your final Grade 11 and Grade 12 certificate (June/Trial Report if you have not yet written your final exams).
  • No. All undergraduate applications go through CAO. Direct applications are only applicable to postgraduate studies.

DUT Admission Requirements

Higher Certificate: A National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4 with at least 50% in English.

Diploma: A National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4 with the following minimum requirements:

    • At least 50% in three fundamental subjects, including English; and
    • At least 60% of the three compulsory vocational

Bachelor’s Degree: See below:

    • A National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4 with the following minimum requirements:
    • At least 60% in three fundamental subjects, including English; and
    • At least 70% in four compulsory vocational subjects, chosen from the National
    • Certificate (Vocational) Level.

Durban University of Technology is currently accepting applicants for the 2026 academic year. You can now apply for your desired undergraduate or graduate course at one of South Africa’s leading universities, whether you are a national or non-national student. Durban University of Technology does not guarantee submissions submitted after the deadline. We encourage that you apply as soon as possible to ensure your spot in the course.

Step-by-step Application Guidelines for Durban University of Technology

To apply to Durban University of Technology, complete the steps outlined below.

Step 1: Selection Criteria

  • You must meet the selected course’s minimum and faculty criteria.
  • Apply for up to three study programs using the same form.
  • Please submit only one application form for 2026.
  • Submit the completed application form.
  • If you were previously refused, you can reapply for the academic year 2026.

Step 2: Required Documents During DUT 2026 Application

Undergraduate

  • Certified copy of your ID or passport document (compulsory).
  • Certified Grade 11 end-of-year examination results (for those currently in grade 12) or your National Senior/Matric/IEB Certificate (if you have already completed Grade 12).
  • Certified copies of your degree certificate(s) and academic record (if you attended or are currently a student at DUT or another university).

  • Certificate of registration with the relevant professional council (if applicable)
  • Letter of appointment as a registrar with a date of assumption of duty
  • Motivational letter and CV (for Health applicants only)
  • Medical aid (Non-South Africans)
  • Students with non-South African qualifications must attach a SAQA evaluation certificate with their previous degrees obtained

Step 3: Non-refundable Handling Fee

Durban University of Technology application fee for 2026 admission is as follows:

  • South African citizens pay a non-refundable application fee of R250.
  • International applicants are charged a non-refundable application fee of R300.

This non-refundable fee must be paid before your application is processed. Ensure you keep a copy of the deposit slip as proof of payment.
