SMU Login Application For 2026 | How to Apply Online

Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University has launched its online application portal for undergraduate and postgraduate candidates applying for the 2026 academic year. The portal, accessible on the university’s official website (www.smu.ac.za), will open on April 1, 2025. Applicants can use a mobile phone and a reliable internet connection to access the portal. South African applicants need their ID number, while foreign students must use their passport number to log in and apply.

Sefako Makgatho University will start accepting online applications for bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate programs on Monday, April 1, 2025, for the 2026 intake. The application process will be managed through the university’s online application login. The deadline for undergraduate course applications is July 31, 2025, while applications for postgraduate courses will close on September 30, 2025.

Applications for all programs at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University for the 2026 academic year will open on April 1, 2025. The deadline for undergraduate program applications is Saturday, July 28, 2024, while postgraduate program applications will close on Tuesday, September 29, 2025. The university does not accept late applications, so it’s important to apply promptly to secure a place.

The online application portal allows applicants to resume where they left off if they cannot complete the application in one session. To continue, applicants need their student number and a 5-digit PIN. Once the application form is completed and all supporting documents are uploaded, the application can be submitted.

Applicants can track their application using their student number and 5-digit PIN on the Applicant Portal. If a PIN is forgotten, users can click the “forget PIN” button to receive a new one via email.

SMU Required Documents for 2026

Sefako Makgatho University prefers PDF documents, but doc, docx, jpg, jpeg, and png files can also be uploaded during the online application process. The documents should be certified at your local police station, and the certification period should not exceed 90 days at the time of the application. Remember that the Sefako Makgatho online application portal is open from April 1 to September 30th, 2025.

Please remember to create an online profile so that your application for 2024 admissions is considered. When creating the application profile for 2024 via the SMU application portal, you will need an email address and a phone number.

Application Fee

For the 2026 online application, the handling or application fee for South African and international applicants is R300 at Sefako Makgatho University.

You are only permitted to apply for two study options. The first qualification chosen will be considered your first choice, and the second will be considered your second choice. You must choose the qualification code and name from the provided “List of Values.”

Undergraduate

Certified copy of your ID or passport document (compulsory).
Certified Grade 11 end-of-year examination results (for those currently in grade 12) or your National Senior/Matric/IEB Certificate (if you have already completed Grade 12).
Certified copies of your degree certificate(s) and academic record (if you attended or are currently a student at SMU or another university).
Certified copy of your marriage certificate (if applicable).
Proof of payment of the compulsory and non-refundable application fee

Postgraduate

Certified copies of the following documents:
Matric exemption certificate (including subject marks)
ID document / Passport / Work permit / Study permit
Diploma/Degree certificate/s
Comprehensive academic record (indicating marks obtained for subjects)
Certificate of registration with the relevant professions council (if applicable)
Letter of appointment as a registrar with a date of assumption of duty: applicants for M Med and M Dent students NB: letter from the employer, e.g. Hospital HR.
Motivational letter and CV (Public Health applicants only)
Medical aid (Non-South Africans)
Students with non-South African qualifications must attach a SAQA evaluation certificate with their previous degrees obtained

How to Access the Sefako Makgatho University Application Portal

To log in, click the username textbox and enter your student ID. Then, in the password textbox, enter your university password. When you log in, you will see a list of all the modules for which you have registered. Use your complete email address as well as your current password.
