Thinking about pursuing a career in education? North-West University (NWU) offers a variety of Bachelor of Education (BEd) degrees to equip you with the knowledge and skills you need to succeed in the classroom.

General Admission Requirements:

Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission due to limited capacity and high demand.

• National Senior Certificate with endorsement for bachelor’s studies.
• Achieve specific subject combinations and performance levels as outlined in Government Gazette 31231 (2008).
• A minimum score of 26 on the Admission Point Score (APS) was calculated from designated and additional subjects (excluding Life Orientation).
• Pass both Home Language and First Additional Language at level 4 (50-59%) or achieve level 5 (60-69%) in the language chosen for instruction.

Language Requirements:

• Language of Learning and Teaching (LoLT): Choose from Afrikaans, English, isiXhosa, Sesotho, or Setswana.
• Language of Conversational Competence (LoCC): Choose from Afrikaans, isiXhosa, Sesotho, and Setswana. LoLT and LOCC may differ.

Additional Requirements (program-specific):

• BEd Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE):
• Clearance certificate for working with children as per the Children’s Act.
• Access to a computer and sufficient Wi-Fi.
• BEd Foundation Phase Grade R – 3:
• Specific subject combinations based on the chosen medium of instruction (MC, PC, VC, Distance).
• BEd Intermediate Phase Grade 4 – 6:
• Specific subject combinations based on the chosen medium of instruction (PC, VC).
• Mathematics level 3 OR Technical Mathematics level 4 (for programs with Mathematics, Science, and Technology).
• BEd Senior and Further Education and Training Grade 7 – 12:
• Subject-specific requirements for various specializations (e.g., English, Physical Science, Accounting, etc.).
