The Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) is now accepting applications for the 2026 academic year. Whether you are a local or international student, you can apply for your preferred undergraduate or graduate course at one of South Africa’s top universities. Although late applications are accepted at MUT, we recommend applying as soon as possible to secure your course.

Mangosuthu University of Technology 2026 Application Deadlines

Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) is accepting applications for the 2026 academic year starting from January 1, 2025, and closing on September 30, 2025. Late applications will be accepted until November 30, 2025, with an additional fee set by the Central Applications Office (CAO).

Key application deadlines include:

Faculty of Engineering: First semester by September 30; second semester by May 31.
Faculty of Applied and Health Sciences: September 30.
Analytical Chemistry (second semester): May 31.
Faculty of Management Sciences: September 30.

Documentation Required for Mangosuthu University of Technology Online Application

All applicants must upload the following documents during the online application process for the 2026 academic year.

South African Candidates

National Senior Certificate or Statement of Results
Senior Certificate
Identity Document
Students transferring from other universities should submit an original academic record and a certificate of good conduct

International Candidates

A valid study permit
A valid medical aid or health insurance cover
A valid passport
GCE, GCSE, IGCSE or Cambridge School Certificate
Students holding a GCE GCSE IGCSE or the Cambridge School Certificate must have passed five approved ordinary-level subjects, including the English language, provided three subjects have been passed at the same examination sitting.

Procedures for MUT Admission: January 2026 intake application

International students must apply directly to Mangosuthu University of Technology by visiting the official website at www.mut.ac.za, while all first-time domestic undergraduate applicants must use the CAO official website.

To apply online, prospective students must visit the Central Application Office (CAO) at www.cao.ac.za, click the apply link, select “Apply Now,” and then follow the easy instructions. The CAO application form has a tear-off slip with the CAO number printed on it.

How to Apply to MUT through the CAO portal

To apply as a CAO for Mangosuthu University of Technology’s January 2026 intake, follow the guidelines provided below.

STEP 1: Get Access to the Internet

Go to the website: www.cao.ac.za and click on ‘Apply.’
Read the information and click on ‘Continue with Application

STEP 2: Log in to Commence

Enter your ID number and click on ‘Submit.’
Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on ‘Continue with Application

STEP 3: Provide Your Personal Details

Start to enter all the details requested. Once you have entered all the requested information, click on ‘Next.
Click on ‘Continue with Online Application
A pop-up window will appear with your CAO number, password, and EasyPay number. Read the instructions
Click on ‘Continue with Online Application’.
Follow the instructions and complete all the information requested, then click ‘Next’.

STEP 4: Next of KIN Details

Complete the ‘Next of Kin’ details and click ‘Next’.

STEP 5 : Educational Information

Insert the school name and click on ‘Search’. The school name will appear in a box, and you must enter the year you attended that school and the year you finished attending that school.
Click ‘Next’ to proceed to the next step.

STEP 6: Submit the Online Application

When you reach ‘Process My Application’, click on the button. YOUR APPLICATION HAS NOW BEEN SUBMITTED
The message on your screen will display that your submission has been successful.

STEP 7: Pay the Application Fee and Upload Documents

You can now pay online and/or upload your supporting documents.
Pay via EasyPay.

MUT Academic Criteria for admission Selection

National Senior Certificate with a diploma pass or N3 with 50% pass in Mathematics and English
A minimum of 5 subjects with level 4 pass for diploma study and level 3 for Access Courses
English Home Language or First Additional Language, level 4 pass
Specific subject combination and pass level relevant to the qualification
Minimum points as per faculty requirements and as listed on the CAO handbook
