When to Apply for the University of Pretoria for 2026

The University of Pretoria will accept online applications for the 2026 academic year beginning April 1, 2025. Paper applications are not available; thus, all prospective students, undergraduate and graduate, must apply online at www.up.ac.za. Ensure that you send all required papers, including proof of payment for the application fee.

Application Dates and Deadlines

The University of Pretoria does not accept late applications, so it’s important to apply early to secure your spot for the 2026 academic year. The deadline for all courses is June 30, 2025. Be sure to complete the online application form to take advantage of this opportunity.

University of Pretoria Online application fee

The application fee for online applications is R300 for South African applicants and USD30 for international applicants. Proof of payment must be submitted with the application before the deadline. Failure to pay the fee will result in the rejection of your application. Please note that paying the application fee does not guarantee admission, and fees are non-refundable if you are not accepted. If rejected, a new application and fee will be required for future consideration.

Applicants seeking Undergraduate ( CERTIFICATE, DIPLOMA & BACHELOR) qualification

  • Certified copy of your ID/passport document (compulsory).
  • Certified Grade 11 end-of-year examination results (for those currently in grade 12) or your National Senior/Matric/IEB Certificate (if you have already completed Grade 12).
  • Certified copies of your degree certificate(s) and academic record (if you attended or are currently a student at UP or another university).
  • Certified copy of your marriage certificate (if applicable).
  • Proof of payment of the compulsory and non-refundable application fee

Applicants seeking Postgraduate (MASTERS & DOCTORATE) qualifications

  • Certified copies of the following documents:
  • Matric exemption certificate (including subject marks)
  • ID document / Passport / Work permit / Study permit
  • Diploma/Degree certificate/s
  • Comprehensive academic record (indicating marks obtained for subjects)
  • Certificate of registration with the relevant professions council (if applicable)
  • Letter of appointment as a registrar with a date of assumption of duty: applicants for M Med and M Dent students NB: letter from the employer, e.g. Hospital HR.
  • Motivational letter and CV (Public Health applicants only)
  • Medical aid (Non-South Africans)
  • Students with non-South African qualifications must attach a SAQA evaluation certificate with their previous degrees obtained

How to Apply Online for the University of Pretoria

To apply online to the University of Pretoria, follow the steps below:

  • Step № 1: Go to www.upnet.up.ac.za/psc/upapply.
  • Step № 2: Choose “Start New Application” from the drop-down menu.
  • Step № 3: On the privacy notice pop-up, click OK.
  • Step № 4: Fill in the blanks with your information (Personal information)
  • Step № 5: Check that the characters in the security code field are entered correctly.
  • Step № 6: Go to the Go tab.
  • Step № 7: A disclaimer appears; carefully read it before proceeding (Do not discard this page)
  • Step № 8: Fill in your information in the provided Dropbox.
  • Step № 9: Select the OK button.
  • Step № 10: On the next page, confirm your application and click Continue to proceed.
  • Step № 11: An ID and a temporary password will be emailed to you. During the application process, a working email address is required.
  • Step № 12: Start your application with this ID number and password by clicking on the link in your email.
  • Step № 13: If you want, you can create your own password.
  • Step № 14: To proceed, click the “save and next” button.
  • Step № 1: The application summary page is now editable. This is the application’s starting point.
  • Step № 15: Start and edit your online application
  • Step № 16: Upload the necessary documents in the proper format.
  • Step № 17: Pay your non-refundable application fee into the university’s official account.
  • Step № 18: If you believe you are finished, click the submit button.

University of Pretoria Entry & Admission Requirements

National Senior Certificate (NSC) with the following pass:

  • Mathematics: 5 (C Symbol: 60%-69%) (Note that Mathematical Literacy will not be accepted.)
  • Physical Science: 5 (C Symbol: 60%-69%)
  • English or Afrikaans: 4 (D Symbol: 50%-59%)
  • Life Orientation: 4 (D Symbol: 50%-59%) (Excluded when calculating the APS)
  • Two other subjects: 4 (D Symbol: 50%-59%)
  • An Admission Points Score (APS) of 32
  • Admission test.
