The National Student Financial Aid Scheme, also known as the Nsfas, is back for the academic year 2024-2025. This is a South African government-funded entity whose goal is to provide funding for students who want to enrol or are currently enrolled in South African-owned universities and Tvet colleges. NSFAS is NOW open from September 28th to 31st January 2024 and the application form is available at www.nsfas.org.za/apply-2024-2025

All interested applicants should keep the application deadlines in mind and submit their applications as soon as possible because no late submissions, either electronically or manually, will be permitted once the deadline has passed.

How to Apply for NSFAS 2024 Online Application

In your best interest, learn about Nsfas application techniques and how to fill out the online Nsfas application form correctly. To receive funding from Nsfas, you must first learn how to apply. This is extremely important. Although the online application may be difficult for new high school applicants, it may not be for previous applicants whose applications were rejected for a variety of reasons.

  • Please visit the NSFAS Application 2024 website at www.nsfas.org.za/apply-2024.
  • Then click on the’myNSFAS’ tab.
  • Create a myNSFAS account. Go HERE if you don’t know how to create the account.
  • Choose the ‘APPLY’ tab.
  • Make any necessary changes to your personal information.
  • Respond to the questions on the screen.
  • Upload any supporting documents that are required.
  • Finally, you click the “submit” button.

Nsfas Application Requirements for 2024-2025

Nsfas funding is available to all applicants with a South African identification number. This could be because of birth or by law. This is the first criterion or requirement for an applicant to be approved for funding by Nsfas in 2024-2025. The following are the remaining criteria:

  1. All SASSA grant recipients qualify for funding
  2. Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per annum
  3. A person with a disability: Combined household income must not be more than R600 000 per annum
  4. Students who started studying before 2018 and whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum.

Nsfas Application Documents for the 2024-2025 academic year

If you require Nsfas funding, do not throw away the following documents. Before submitting or uploading these documents online, ensure that they are original. NSFAS has removed the requirement for documents to be certified.

  • Copy of your student ID or Birth certificate if you don’t have the ID yet
  • Copy of parent/s or guardian/ spouse ID (They must be south African Citizens)
  • Smart card: both sides of the card required
  • Proof of income (where applicable)
  • Persons living with disability (Disability Annexure A form)
  • An applicant who is recognised as a vulnerable child by the Department of Social Development must provide a completed Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker
  • An applicant who has indicated that s/he has no family member details and or abridged birth certificate must complete the Declaration: Non-SASSA

Academic requirements for the Nnsfas bursary

To receive NSFAS funding to study at a TVET college, you must have completed Grades 9 to 12, and Grade 12 to study at a university or TVET college. If you are approved for NSFAS funding, you must first meet the academic admission requirements of the university or TVET college before NSFAS will provide you with any funds.

Applicants who receive NSFAS funding are eligible for:

  • Tuition costs

After your funding is confirmed, you may be eligible for the following allowances:

  • Allowance for living expenses
  • Learning Resources

  • Accommodation
  • Transportation
