Please read this article to learn about the current status of the University of Johannesburg’s application window for 2026. The University of Johannesburg, generally known as UJ, is a public university headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa. It receives a significant number of applications every year; thus, you need to know when UJ will officially start applications for 2026.
Prospective students can apply to the University of Johannesburg’s undergraduate programs for the 2026 intake starting April 1, 2025. The deadline for applying is midnight on October 31, 2025. This gives candidates adequate time to gather their supporting documents and complete their applications. To avoid last-minute complications, apply well ahead of the deadline, as late applications will not be approved.
It is required of every prospective applicant to submit their applications online via the UJ website. Online candidates will receive notification within 48 hours of submitting their application, indicating whether their status is deferred or final. Applicants who send hard copies will receive notification of their status—final or deferred—within five working days.
High school graduates: This includes individuals who hold a South African National Senior Certificate (NSC) with a degree endorsement or equivalent qualification recognized by the Matriculation Board of South Africa. Minimum passing marks in specific subjects may be required for certain programs.
Mature students: Applicants who haven’t completed high school but have relevant work experience or have passed an acceptable alternative qualification like General Educational Development (GED) may be considered.
Transfer students: Transfer students can apply if they currently attend another South African or overseas university and meet all of the requirements.

For online applications, there is no application fee for both South African and international applicants. However, if you are submitting a manual application (hard copy), a non-refundable application fee of R200 is required.
